Tingbjerg

Comprehensive transformation of an entire district

Over time, neighborhoods and residential areas can develop unfavourably and obtain a predominance of vulnerable residents, with education levels below average and a share of crime and unemployment rates above. Despite its many qualities, the architect-designed district Tingbjerg, located just eight kilometers from the City Hall Square in Copenhagen, has evolved into such an area. It is home to 6,500 residents living in 2,500 public housing units.

In close collaboration with the two local social housing organizations SAB/KAB and fsb, as well as the Municipality of Copenhagen, Nrep is developing more than 1,000 new private residences, primarily townhouses. We are currently in the process of integrating these into the area, where they, along with other urban development projects and a range of initiatives, to contribute to a prosperous development of the area.

See video above, where Director of Urban Development and former Lord Mayor of Copenhagen, Jens Kramer Mikkelsen, explains the visions for Tingbjerg

VISION FOR BETTER LIVES

We are working closely with architects and landscape architects to develop townhouses and outdoor areas that perfectly fit the existing environment. Additionally, we are collaborating with the municipality to improve the local infrastructure, daycare centers, the local public school, and surrounding businesses, so the entire area is uplifted and ready to welcome many new residents.

One of Denmark’s most renowned architects, Steen Eiler Rasmussen, designed Tingbjerg back in the 1950s as a complete and cohesive neighborhood with light and space for ordinary families in solid quality buildings.

His vision was to create an affordable range of housing in a green environment close to Copenhagen – as an attractive alternative for the working class to the rundown apartments in the inner-city districts of Copenhagen.

Nrep aims to revive this vision by offering new owner-occupied homes at highly attractive prices. Fortunately, there is a demand for this, and therefore we screen interested buyers to ensure they come to Tingbjerg with a genuine willingness to contribute to creating a vibrant and inclusive neighborhood.

We are also collaborating with the local organization Tingbjerg Bydelsforening to foster a strong foundation for community, neighborliness, and cohesion between those moving into the new homes and those who have lived in Tingbjerg for years or even decades.

We do this with garden meetings where new and old residents can influence what the courtyards between the buildings should contain, as well as with mentorship and internship programs for the neighborhood’s youth, exhibitions in our showroom about the district’s history, festive events for the whole neighborhood, and many other initiatives.
