My career start: From Student Analyst to a full-time Investment Analyst
Anne Cathrine Bertelsen Dall, 26 years, now a full-time Investment Analyst in our Copenhagen office, shares her transition from a student analyst to full-time investment analyst and why Nrep has been a meaningful start to her career.
My journey to Nrep
During my master’s in Finance and Investments, I focused on theoretical and empirical models for investment decisions while working in the Danish mortgage system, providing financing for large corporate clients. Although I saw finance as my career path, I became increasingly fascinated by strategic perspectives and aspired to make a more direct impact through investments.
Nrep’s refreshing approach to private equity and its commitment to challenging the status quo captivated me. Their pioneering role in sustainable solutions, exemplified by a project like UN17, including 535 units built around the UN’s 17 sustainable development goals, aligned perfectly with my curiosity and drive to tackle complex and significant challenges. Further, maximizing returns for shareholders alongside with Nrep’s mission and values resonated deeply with me, fuelling my desire to join.
The application process was thorough and engaging. After an introduction meeting, I completed a case study and interviewed with two investment directors and the People and Culture team. These interactions solidified my belief that Nrep was the perfect place for my career development. I was quickly inspired by how deeply the culture and commitment to making a difference resonated with everyone in the organization. Thrilled to receive a job offer, I officially started in February 2022.
Experience a career that grows with you
I remember the excitement of my first day, knowing this company represented a great opportunity to empower my professional journey. From the very beginning, I worked alongside and connected with ambitious colleagues from diverse backgrounds, including consulting, investment banking, brokering and engineering, in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. The dedication to optimize results with an entrepreneurial spirit left a strong impression on me and continues to inspire me today.
As a student investment analyst, I was given significant responsibilities, assisting immediately with transactions by working on sourcing activities, board presentations, financial modelling and material for advisor selection in a M&A disposal process. Also, I conducted an internal analysis of residential properties in operation to enhance transparency for our projects. These experiences deepened my understanding of key value drivers and involved me in solving complex issues early in my career.
Starting full-time marks a crucial milestone for a new graduate’s career. At Nrep, this transition brought greater responsibilities and learning opportunities. Despite sometimes feeling a bit out of my depth, I led workstreams and financial modelling for new investments with support when needed. A key aspect is the opportunity to directly influence projects. For instance, in a project targeting young people and expats in Copenhagen, I initiated a brainstorming session to optimize the property layout, leading to a redesign of the ground floor to enhance social interaction. Working in agile, cross-border, and cross-functional teams – balancing diverse perspectives into best solutions – coupled with a strong feedback culture, makes Nrep’s core value of always learning not just an ideal but a daily reality.
